WHAT IS THE PECK & PICK?

The Peck & Pick is a hobby farmstand, proudly run on the honor system. We’re not full-time farmers, but our love for growing, homesteading, and sharing what we produce continues to grow right alongside our crops.

Our goal is to reach the financial threshold needed to apply for agricultural designation, which will allow us to expand our production and participate in programs that support small farms like ours. For now, our harvest comes in waves—feast or famine depending on the season!

We dream of one day making this farm our full-time “bread and butter.” Like many, we’re still balancing full-time jobs while building something meaningful here, one harvest at a time. This farmstand is rooted in trust, generosity, and community. Some items will have set prices, while others will be offered as “take what you need, pay what you can.”  When we’re blessed with an overabundance—which happens often—we’ll share that harvest back with our community through a small, informal giveback approach, helping ensure fresh food reaches those who need it most.

As we grow, we hope this space can become more than just a place to pick up produce—a simple, peaceful setting where people can gather, slow down, and enjoy the beauty of the land in small, thoughtful ways that reflect the heart of what we’re building here.

Thank you for supporting our hobby, our harvests, and our dream.

Just for Fun...OUR FAVORITE HENS

Remember the early days of social media where you were forced to savagely choose your top 8 friends? With over 30 hens, we've decided to feature our top favorite hens! Why? Because chickens can't read so we're not worried about them finding out!

ROSEMARY (AKA ROSIE)
BANTAM HEN BORN JULY 2024
SHE CAN FLY! Can a chicken fly? YES! Rosie is a little powerhouse that flies around the yard and resembles a pigeon (but much nicer). She's the BEST! She's a one of a kind and we love her! 12/10 stars because everyone loves an underdog.

CARAMEL (RIP)
PRAIRIE BLUEBELL EGGER - BORN APRIL 2024
Charming and kind demeanor Sings sweetly like a songbird. Got rejected from her flock because she stubbed her toe. Almost pecked to death twice. Tame and lives in cage on the porch as our family pet until we can re-integrate her! The friendliest and my personal favorite of all the hens; ever.
12/10 stars because everyone loves an underdog.
UPDATE - Caramel was mobbed by the flock. RIP lil Mella. :(

URSULA
BLACK JERSEY GIANT - BORN JULY 2023
Helped raise a flock of 10.
Loses points for abusing Pumpkin's smallest chick.
Cool name but steals voices.
She's the least favorite of the favorites.
9/10 stars

TOFFEE
ISA BROWN - BORN MARCH 2021
Model-like looks Bug terminator Not afraid of loud noises Comes over if you say "Bok Bok" Update: May 2024 - Sadly, she passed away, but she's still a favorite!
11/10 stars

KAREN
BARRED ROCK - BORN MARCH 2021
Squawked all the way home from Tractor Supply Prefers Pop Music over Country She's a heckin' chonker; hawks can't carry her away Prefers her OG friends and not new ones We now lovingly refer to all Barred Rocks as "Karens"
10/10 stars because everyone loves a Karen!

PUMPKIN
FRIZZLE & SILKIE MIX - BORN JULY 2021
If old mother Hubbard was a hen, it'd be her. Raised 3 flocks; 5, 36 and 10. Only the first flock included some of her eggs. Survived a predator attack and lived until morning; twice. Nicknamed "Skeleton Princess," "Grandma," and "Old Mother Hubbard" Makes gremlin noises when you pet her. Small but mighty
10/10 stars

CHLOE
ISA BROWN - BORN JULY 2023
The 2nd friendliest of all the hens. The reason we will always raise Isa Browns! Greatest Egg Layer! Loves to sing and talk.
10/10 stars
